Nowadays nobody can imagine the Christmas without Christmas tree and carols. But does anybody have knowledge about where did those customs come from?

The history of Christmas tree

The tradition of holiday tree has its beginning in Germany. In the 16th century German Christians locate in their houses the decorated trees. Somebody was built Christmas pyramids and then decked them with candles and evergreens. Lights was added to a Christmas tree by Martin Luther in the same time. Idea for candles appears in the time of walking. Martin Luther one December evening noticed brillinace of stars twinkling between evergreens.

Only a few know that majority of 19th century American citizens treated Christmas trees as oddity. The first record about holiday tree in that region appeared in 1830s and tell about settlers from German as a owners of holiday tree. Some say that settlers from German had Christmas trees as early as 1747. But, as late as the 1840s Christmas trees were seen as pagan symbols and they weren’t accepted by majority of American citizens.

The tradition of holiday carols

The definition of „carol” in fact means dance or a song of joy and praise. Initially carols were songs of pagans those were sung at the celebration of Winter Solstice when people danced around stone circles. Christians took over pagan songs and prepared songs for Christian. In 129 the song „Angel’s Hymn” was popular and played at a Christmas celebrations in Rome. Another Christmas hymn was written in 760 by Comas from Jerusalem. After that time more and more composers in Europe started creating Christmas songs. But the most of carols was sung in Latin and because of that many Christians had lost interest those things.

Christmas tree and Christmas songs are amazing customs those are worth continued between generations. The knowledge about long history of Holiday tree and Christmas songs makes them even more unusual.
